Andrew R. Johnson
February 2, 1939 - August 25, 2025
Andrew “Andy” Robert Johnson, age 86, of Oceanside, California, passed away on August 25, 2025.
Andy was born on February 2, 1939, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Arthur Johnson and Amy Burry.
He proudly served his country as a Naval Flight Officer in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1967, receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, Andy pursued a successful career as a Scientific Computer Programmer and Analyst. His professional path included positions with Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Palmdale, H.L. Yoh in Los Angeles, and The Aerospace Corporation. In 1973, Andy joined Hughes Aircraft, which later became Raytheon, where he worked until his retirement on May 25, 2013, as a Senior System Analyst.
Education was a cornerstone of Andy’s life. He earned his Associate of Arts degree in Mathematics from Los Angeles Valley College and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from California State College, Northridge, in 1970.
In 1990, Andy married the love of his life, Leni D. Johnson. Together they built a blended family filled with love, laughter, and strong bonds.
Andy is survived by his wife, Leni D. Johnson; his son, Matthew Johnson; his stepchildren and their families: John Paul and Leila with their daughters Carol and Laura Dimaandal; Jeane and Max with their sons Andrew, Levi, and Matthew Shepherd; and JC and his partner Alisa with their sons Alister and Silas.
He is also survived by his siblings: his sister Diane Johnson McDonald and her children Eddie (with wife Kristina and family), Jimmy (with wife Karen and family), Charleene and her children and grandchildren, and Dorothy (preceded in death by husband Kevin) and her children; his older brother Jim Johnson (wife Bella, daughters Cheryl Etta Gabhart Prall and Karen Amy Sarneckey); and his younger brother Don Johnson (wife Jinx, son Blake).
Andy was preceded in death by his nephew David.
Services
Interment will take place at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92081, on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:30 AM.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Veterans Association of North County, 1617 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA 92058.
