Linda E. Shipman

Linda E. Shipman, 79, of Encinitas, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Linda was born in Millersburg, Ohio, to Mary and A Lee Snyder. Her family moved to Allied Gardens in San Diego when she was one year old. Linda grew up in San Diego and graduated from Herbert Hoover High School.

Linda married Thomas E. Shipman in 1968. The two were lifelong companions and friends who enjoyed travelling and exploring the world together. They were blessed with two daughters; Laura and Leslie.

Linda dedicated her life to her family, raising her daughters and maintaining the home while her girls were young. As her girls aged and became more independent, Linda continued her education, completing her bachelor’s degree at San Diego State University and earning her dream job of becoming a Park Ranger. She loved being outdoors and helping to educate the public about how to move within and enjoy our public open spaces. She worked at Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma, San Dieguito River Park and then retired from the City of Escondido, where she was stationed at Dixon Lake and Daley Ranch. Linda will be remembered for her independence, humor, her enjoyment of daily exercise, her love of travel and reading, and especially her dedication to her family and friends.

Linda is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Shipman, her daughters, Laura Watts and Leslie Hearn, and her five grandchildren, Kayla, Dylan, Tegan, Austin, and Barrett. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Snyder of East Troy, Wisconsin. Linda will be deeply missed by her family and many lifelong friends. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Elizabeth Hospice, who took such wonderful care of Linda in her final days.
